Pouring Hope On the Shadows of My Broken Heart

Pouring Hope On the Shadows of My Broken Heart

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

Like a bird I breathed in time from the star of an evening filled with two shades of laughter.

"

Like a bird I breathed in time
from the star of an evening
filled with two shades of laughter.
I wandered with an empty heart,
seeing faces
that frightened all the love
from the last time
those three little words
floated silently
into spaces
where nothing......
is sheltered.

Different images hold my head up
as if saying
all I ever wanted to be
can be found,
if I move my feet
instead of trying to tame all I look upon
and have become acquainted with.
Nothing smiles at the shadows
left by my broken heart
here on the sidewalk of
“Never Again, I Said.”

Should I pour colored hope
over what could have been a breath of time
and watch the light of the evening star
return warmth
to a water-painted canvas of laughter
we both can hear?
Allow my heart to be filled
with two shades of beauty
so those three little words
can float into spaces.......
held dear.

Can a poem simultaneously lift one out of despair and push them further down into it at the same time? I read the last stanza over and over, those three little words, so magical, the best any of us can hope to hear, but the memory of them can hurt so much when they are never to be heard again. Great work Neva.

You have a way of making sadness smile so beautifully. I could wax lyrical but then that might detract from YOUR words and emotions which is so wrong. You always, always find the most incredible way of saying how you feel: '.. as if saying ~ all I ever wanted to be ~ can be found,~ if I move my feet ~ instead of trying to tame all I look upon..'

The most miserable of lovers would find your words an inspiration, Neva ..

Hummm … made me speculate on the idea of pouring a rainbow of optimism over an abused heart, tainted with the silhouettes of rejection! Wonderful write!

wonderful!
A dreamish, vast write that seems like an unfolding legend... the universe filling the lines with color, and every star a character in the scene. Beautifully voiced and moving.

This speaks to me of hope in the face of pain--a tender and needed message--beautifully done Neva!

What strong imagery and emotion this poem invokes! "to a water-painted canvas of laughter" I felt so many different feelings reading this line alone. The very idea od emotions so intricately woven into images of "color, canvas, and laughter" is hauntingly beautiful and captivating. And the end of this, allows for so much hope.Beautiful read.

This is such an amazing poem... I love the imagery and the "love" drifting in air where 'nothing is sheltered'... I am always awed by your writing. Such grace!
