A Poem by Chanel Richardson
"

morphine

"

You are small

You are white

You put up no fight

As you slid down my throat making yourself at home

You helped me forget

But in the end

You make everything fall

And descend

You had no intention on doing what you did

As I’ll look back saying “I was only a kid”

It hurts to picture myself going down that path again

As most probably thought “It’s just another teenage trend”

It’s a memory that will haunt me throughout all my years

Never having anything to do with the ones known as “peers”

It was me, my fault, my mistake, my lie,

Looking back upon the days makes me want to cry

Author's Note

Chanel Richardson
I tried my first drugs at 14, it was morphine, and I ended up falling out because I was too high and my mom had to take me to the hospital. This is that writing.
