Abuse

A Poem by Chandra Lee
"

Another poem I wrote on a whim. I seem to write depressing poems better than cheery ones..

"

Look into my eyes,
can't you see the pleading within them?
The small whimper that escapes from my muzzle,
can't your ears hear them over the angry shouts?
I came to you seeking shelter, food and love,
but this was nothing I ever expected from my master.
Tail between my legs, I try to cower back,
but you grab me and pull me back,
your fist coming down upon my quivering body again.
I yelp and squeal,
it hurts, don't you see?
I cry and cry, it's all I can do.
Your fist comes down again, harder this time,
and again my yelps and pleas go unheard.
My body is weak from lack of substenance,
I can't take this abuse much more, master.
Please, won't you stop?
My frail body will break soon, you see.
Finally you seem to understand,
the blows stop,
the room falls silent.
You stare at me with such malice and hatred,
I still don't understand what I did wrong.
I look back up at you with pleading eyes,
hoping against hope that you won't do it again.
I wag my little ol' tail,
I want you to smile and pat me on the head,
but instead you raise your foot and it connects with my already throbbing side,
I yelp and am sent sprawling,
it hurts so bad!
You leave the room, you've finally stopped.
I find a spot on this cold, dirty floor to lick my wounds
while you retire to your comfortable bed of warmth.
As my eyes begin to droop,
my body almost too sore to bear,
I wonder again what I have done wrong to deserve this,
and if it will ever end...

This is such a powerful piece! Brings tears to my eyes. Torn between the desire to take up the dog in my arms and the burning desire to smash the hell out of it's master! Excellent write which should be sent to every animal protection organisation in the world for use in their advertising campaigns!
