MAD

MAD

A Poem by Chandini Hemdev
"

An experience that pulled me down, played with my mind, poetry seemed like my only way to deal with it

"

MAD

Pensive the mood, numb the feeling,

you don't seem to know anything.
Who are you?
Why are you here?
What has made you so cold in the hot summer?
The atmosphere around is dark and lost,

the people inside are smashed and asleep at last.
Party is what they call it,

you wonder what that word means,

for your dictionary paves out the word in different contexts and meanings.
Alcohol is their food tonight,

the biryani could take a hike;
they want to have a good time with the hash cake.
Zoned like a zombie on the terrace,

smoking like there is water in the cigarette;
Marry Jane as they address her,

she adhered, their heart and lungs she made disappear;
Disappear in the sky, for their color matches that of the night light.
They wonder what makes you so prim and proper,

to resist that disturbing temptation,

which to you is a disgusting gesture,

to have a good time and party when you're 21.
You then resort to cleaning and staying happy with what you do, for you anyway have no company, and no one to rescue.
As much as you wana dance, you refrain from that crowd, they haunt you in ways unknown, parameters unimaginable.
Are you normal they ask you,

you care not to answer,

but expect someone to stand up for you;
well boom,

because that's where you lost your game,
