The World OutsideA Poem by Cameron GilhoolyA reflective free verse poemSometimes I feel like it would be nice To just freeze time in its tracks, To pause the endless momentum of life and simply breathe.
Like the lazy afternoons spent at the beach In the warmth of a waning summer, Wishing you didn’t have to go back to work the next morning Or that fall wasn’t creeping around the corner.
I wonder what that feeling is. What lies at the heart of that desire? I suppose the real question is: If I could stop time in its tracks,
Would I have the courage To ever start it back up again? The courage to rejoin the world And the flowing river of life?
If I knew what it would take for me to return, Could I find that same courage On this Tuesday morning As I lie anxiously in my bed? © 2020 Cameron Gilhooly |
