Chapter 8: In the Land of Cyclopes

Chapter 8: In the Land of Cyclopes

A Chapter by Ceuthonymus

The journey had only just begun,

But many a threat was plaguing this

Cursed trip for Ithaca.

Soon enough,

The crew could see another island

Up ahead and sailed for it.

This is the land of the Cyclopes

Creatures that are born with a single eye

Under the sign of Poseidon.

They heard sheep and live in peace

But these people are huge

As tall as the mountains that they reside in

And are to become more vicious as time passes.

Odysseus and his men landing on this island

Set out to explore it in wonder,

But soon enough in horror.

Young Yami all the while

Hid down below deck

Under all that hay

Waiting for the right opportunity to pop out.

Hours passed,

With no sign of the crew or their fearless leader

And so the one we shall follow is Yami

As he goes and explores the land before him.

Now the Cyclopes did not notice the ship

Nor did they notice the crew hours before

But they only noticed the child

Fear evading their minds

As they only sensed the old titan Chronos

Close by and close at hand.

They avoided him at all costs

As Yami took his stroll

Through this mystical land

Full of sheep.

They were nice to him

And went near him

Out of curiosity.

Yami returned the favor by petting them

Showing no sign of harm

But the Cyclopes didn't care.

This was a titan

And the gods would not dare

To allow such a threat to wonder the earth

As freely as this

Yet, here was Yami

Or in their mind, Chronos

One of the most powerful titans of all time

Full of lust for power itself

As he was great in it

For taking down his own father

The second king of all.

They began to plot,

Thinking up ways to trick him,

Trap him and

Serve him to the gods,

For their praise.

It would be better than their usual sacrifices

Since the gods have gotten tired of the sheep

When the Cyclopes had nothing else,

And they knew the gods

Disliked the taste of human flesh,

This, i know, is odd.

The truth is, the gods hate sullied flesh

It being too tainted for their stomachs to handle.

But enough of this gibberish,

As i look on,

Through the eyes of the oracle

I can see the Cyclopes plot and plan this trap

With cruel and unfriendly smiles

They march o'er to Yami

So feeble he is,

That Chronos saw this and took action.

'Stand down,

Oh children of my own!

I come in peace,

Only wishing to say what needs to be said

Of what dreaded things i have done.'

'Ah, father of time itself,

You awaken to meet with us,

But for what?

You can trick and fool,

A deceiver to all, even wife and child.

Why may we trust you with our ears?

When the words you speak could

Very well be poison?'

‘‘Tis true that i have such a

Dreaded past as this,

But i wish for anything to undo

What i have done.

This child is powerless however

And you may restrain me,

But let me try to speak to you

To have you listen to a great threat,

One that is still at work in the shadows,

Lurking and plotting,

Preparing for a war by which would put

All over wars to shame.'

With that, Chronos had the poor

Body of Yami hold his hands up,

Surrendering to the mighty Cyclopes.

They looked at each other,

Dumbfounded as to just what they must do.

For days they sat in a conference

One that is being skipped over

I cannot see it

The muses wish not i tell or see

What is being said or done

But at the end,

As Odysseus outwits a single Cyclopes

By the name of Polyphemus.

Yami returned to the ship in one piece

And sailed off again hidden within

The great ship of Odysseus,

But the journey would become much greater

Full of more challenges for our hero

And for resourceful Odysseus himself.
