ArrowA Chapter by CentipedleOops
I glanced to the side, seeing Yona shoot one of her arrows at the four men covering the back, but once her arrow was sent free- hitting one of them in the gut- another lunged forward and grasped her. I gritted my teeth in desperation as I carelessly slashed at my other opponent; defeating him before twirling around to see Yona pressed to the dirt. The man looming above her was the man she had shot in the shoulder earlier, his wound still bleeding as it dripped onto the dirt next to her head. The three remaining guards made a half circle in front of Yona and her dangerously grinning captor.
I let another growl rip through me as I lunged to the closest man, the one with an arrow in his abdomen. Electricity danced between my fingers and his now marred skin, making him stagger back before collapsing. Yona gave a shrill cry at that moment and I could hear the large man’s laughter underneath the rising wind and I felt a dangerous shutter rack through my person. I clutched my sword in one hand, knowing I’m going to use my free hand first as I slide into a lower stance. I ran through the space I made by taking out the middle man, clutching the guard on my left’s face as I passed; smashing his head to the ground as I came in front of the bleeding guard on the princess. The wind from my movements greeted the burly man pressing his knee into Yona’s back before I arrived. I clutched his shoulder and threw him off of her in an amazing feat of strength. My eyes had already changed colour as I clutched Matthias in both hands, raising it above my head, “You’re dead.” I hissed through gritted teeth as sparks of electricity fell off of my body. Before I let my sword fall onto its impending victim I felt a dagger embed itself into my left shoulder, most likely by the last remaining guard. I could feel my black blood falling away quickly, sloshing onto the ground with it’s strange consistently, but I paid no mind as I locked eyes on my victim. His dark orbs were wide with shock at seeing the colour of my blood, and I used that fear of the unknown creeping into him to slash my prized weapon onto him. I raised it up and continued to slash into him but at some point Matthias fell away and I was using my fists to pummel the man. I could feel two pairs of hands on my back, trying to drag me away. It was one of the injured men who had managed to get back onto his feet and the guard that had thrown the dagger that was still in my arm. I pushed them away before going back to my attacking, my knuckles becoming slick with his blood. My throat was suddenly clutched and I was pushed to the ground. My mind went blank as I felt my body pulse with electricity and a flash of light engulfed me and my attackers. I was on the ground for what felt like hours afterwards, looking up at the reddening sky before I rose off of the ground. All the guards around me, including the previously defeated ones, were scorched from electricity. There was death all around me. I felt my heart palpitate as I searched the blackened surroundings and smoldering remains for Yona, luckily not seeing her in the demise, but her form was nowhere to be found. My eyes rested finally on the leader of the destroyed group just a few feet away, his back to me. I began to walk towards him, finding Matthias back in my grip somehow, but I stopped suddenly as a sudden heat of pain ran through me. I gasped as I slowly looked down. An arrow was placed deeply into my shoulder, the same shoulder the dagger had been in, where the small weapon had went I wasn’t sure. My mind was hazy and many thoughts went spinning through my head, but one protruded forward. This was Yona’s arrow. I looked up, the leader had stepped to the side and Yona, bow semi-raised, greeted my vision just further down the road. She had a face of pure horror and the smell of fear and regret wash off of her in waves. Her knees shook before they gave away and she simply knelt on the ground, staring at me. The tense atmosphere was broken by the grotesque man’s horrendous laughter. I felt my blood boil once again as I let out a scream as I bounded towards him, grabbing him by the throat. The powerful current running through my hand made him squirm in my grasp. All comprehension left my hazzy mind, the thought of leaving him alive for questioning wiped clear from my brain as I leaned in closer, placing my hand onto his chest. His body heaved upwards as a small shock went through him, his heart beat hastening inside his chest and a small gurgle of pain coming up. I removed my hand from his throat, he trying to sit up at that chance, but I quickly slapped my palm onto his mouth and pushed his head into the ground. “Shhh. I don’t wanna hear that infuriating voice of yours.” I looked down my nose at him as his eyes went wide. Blood splurted from between my fingers as he attempted to cough up the blood filling his lungs. I pushed harder on his chest; pumping the last burst of energy into him as his body finally went limp. I shivered with the feeling as I moved my bloody hands from him and simply sat on the back of my heels. I looked at my abnormal blood oozing thickly around the wooden projectile. “Shoe…” I heard Yona choke out from where she was down the road. I tried my best to hold back my tears, but my eyes burned with their release as Yona’s image began to blur with the sight of the rising sun behind her. I heard her tiny footsteps rush towards me, but a voice pierced my ears and the steps froze. “Princess, don’t get any closer to her.” It was Tori’s voice. The tears ran smoother down my dirtied face as her scent touched me, even through the smell of blood around me, the comforting feeling it possessed making me choke back a sob. I had lost control again, I’ve killed people. I could see Yona starting to run towards me again, ignoring Tori’s command and my heart ached. “No, please don’t come near, Yona!” I screamed as I turned away, but a few seconds later I felt her warm hands on my back, turning me to face her. I could hardly breath as Yona placed her fingers into my still slick hands. The initial shock of my electricity still running through my fingers made her recoil, the shock startling her. I wasn’t her dragon after all; she couldn’t control me. I stood up, fearing I’ll hurt Yona in my hazy state, but my vision blurred even more through my tears as I stumbled backwards. A hand held onto my good shoulder, steadying me, but I could feel my electricity course into it and my heart felt like it was going to burst with the knowledge of hurting her. However, the hand did not move away or waver in its strength, realizing it wasn’t Yona holding me up. Hak was in front of me with an unreadable expression, “Shoe, don’t move. You have an arrow in you.” He spoke, narrowing his eyes. I felt my legs give out from under me, but I felt Hak’s sturdy chest and strong arms brace my fall before my mind slipped into unconsciousness. © 2016 CentipedleAuthor's Note
