Ding, a Notification

Ding, a Notification

A Poem by MajesticGust
"

'Another notification on my phone,' he thinks.

"

I hear a ding, a notification

Power button, password quickly typed

No new messages, no new alerts

Just some spam sent to my email

Boredom or curiosity, doesn't matter really

Just something to do; I click on the mail

A news alert, quite frequent these days

Another shooting

Is it a big deal?

Is it wrong for me not to care?

After all, death is everywhere

Worldwide, someone is always dying

What’s one more grave, one more coffin?

Why is this one any different

Than the ones before?

Am I wrong for thinking this way?

After all, what I feel isn’t sorrow

Isn’t anger, nor pity

All I see

Is some misguided sympathy

When I see a death

TV or elsewhere

It is but another nail

Slamming shut the coffin

I think the picture changes when the coffin is yours.
