Introduction to A Woman's War

Introduction to A Woman's War

A Story by Courtney Broderick

I remember like it was yesterday.  Well, I mean it was yesterday, at least I think it was, but who’s actually counting.  Does it matter?  I’ve got a job now.  The nights go on...waiting for a light that never comes… This is the best isn’t it?  All nighters for life.  A teenager’s dream and a parent’s nightmare.  Alcohol, drugs, and of course, the game.  All of us girls that work play it.  Who’s gonna be on top by the end of the night?  Who’s gonna be leaving with that bonus check in their pretty, little hands?  And who’s gonna be shitfaced vomiting in the downstairs sink.

I look down at my clock.  Only 11:14.  Everyone’s just showing up now, time to game up or die trying.  I chase the sun...

Waiting for a light that never comes…  I started to look around the room looking for those suckers that were gonna fall victim tonight.  No girls show up to these kinds of places; those that don’t work here are sleeping.  The day time is there’s.

Tess, comes up to me saying, “This song is bitching.  Aren’t you close to getting a new lift?”  I felt my face.  I was getting close to earning one, but was definitely not ready to get my already young skin pulled and tugged into ways no one ever thought possible.  I just nodded slightly at her with an unfazed face.  “Damn, lucky,” she whispered as she turned over her shoulder to go back down stairs.  Guys of all ages were starting to show up.  Almost time to start the same routine.  Just be better than last time.

When I was young, they told me, they said...

Make your bed, you lie in that bed…

What’s my job you ask?  Well she wouldn’t want you to know, but by the time you might be reading this I’ll either have already made my move or be long gone.  Either way, it won’t have mattered.  She’s bullshit.  It’s my job to unfocus men.  To make them so relaxed, so comfortable that they won’t really take notice.  Take notice to the lives around them.  They just won’t care.

In this time in the world we are all united under one force.  That force is a mystery.  All men are allowed to do whatever they want.  However, women are the working force of this controlling community.  Including myself.  But I’m playing the game to get out.  They don’t know that but I do.

A king can only reign 'til instead...

There comes that day it's "off with his head"...

Thanks Linkin Park, I agree.
