Your Lips

Your Lips

A Poem by Richard Knox
"

A short love poem

"
Perhaps you've not caught me watching your lips,
But I know them well.
With admiring eyes I have mapped them:
Shape, contour, texture.

At times I am entranced
To discover their rare likeness
On an imposter.

Across a restaurant
I spy a woman using your lips
To laugh with friends.

In close-up, an actress,
Borrowing your lips to smile,
Seduces me and millions.

Perhaps you've not caught me
Committing your lips to memory.

But when I find the courage
To ask if I may kiss them,
I know precisely how they will move
If you say Yes.

Thank you, Lisa.
Your words convey a loving obsession with the lips of the one you love and, how you see them everywhere. Your study in lips and knowing "how they will move if you say yes"...is the ultimate goal. Very nice, Richard! An enjoyable read.

I feel the same as Gee, I've never read a poem about lips, but I must say that I loved it!

Thank you, Donna.
This conveys so much. To know those lips so well from watching that you recognise the similarities in others. ‘Borrowing your lips to smile,’ - I love this line. Thanks for sharing this.

Gee
A first for me this poem on lips. Kinda surprised me because it makes me realise how often I watch the lips of those I'm talking to instead of looking into their eyes.
Such a good read :)
