Change of Perspective

Change of Perspective

A Poem by Cassie Black
"

Yesterday I met a man in a queue in a supermarket. He ended up telling me of how he was attacked and stabbed in the North of Ireland when he was 17. It really helped me to appreciate what I have.

"
Seventeen, young and clean
In the midst of a world of war
Unaware of the cruelty it can be
And the pain to be bore

Surrounded by despair and hate
Trying to live a normal life
Go to work at half past eight
To be stabbed by a knife

Your own colleagues at work
Point you out for uncommitted crimes
Your head, they jerk
You notice how the knife shines

They leave you in a dead slumber
A vision of broken and blood
To become another number
Of the deaths in this flood

Your life miraculously saved
You up your life and leave
The scars refuse to fade
Friends and family you grieve

Many happy years on
You share your life changing tale
With a young girl who seemed gone
Broken, fragile and frail

You left her with one thought
To live each day as it comes
Feeling and joy is what you brought
Thank you for taking me from feelings of numb
