The One And Only God - Part 5

The One And Only God - Part 5

A Chapter by Cathy Bryant
"

A continuation of my study of who God is.

The God we serve is above all. He is the One and Only God.

This post continues my study of who God is, as I read through my Bible this year.

He humbles us to test us.

Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands. ~Deuteronomy 8:2, NIV

He causes us to depend on Him.

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not lived on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. ~Deuteronomy 8:3, NIV

He disciplines us because we are His children.

Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you. ~Deuteronomy 8:5, NIV

He gives us the ability to produce wealth.

But remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your forefathers, as it is today. ~Deuteronomy 8:18, NIV

He is impartial.

For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. ~Deuteronomy 10:17, NIV

He defends the cause of the fatherless and widows, and loves the alien.

He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. ~Deuteronomy 10:18, NIV

He is our praise.

He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. ~Deuteronomy 10:21, NIV

He is the Rock who is perfect, right and just.

He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He. ~Deuteronomy 32:4, NIV

He finds us, shields us, cares for us, guards us, hovers over us, and carries us.

In a desert land He found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; He guarded him as the apple of His eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. ~Deuteronomy 32:10-11, NIV

He is our security, safety, source of blessing and salvation.

There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in His majesty. The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, "Destroy him!" So Israel will live in safety alone; Jacob's spring is secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew. Blessed are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will trample down their high places. ~Deuteronomy 33:26-29, NIV

NAMES OF GOD

Jehovah-shalom ~ God, our Peace

So Gideon built and altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD is Peace. To this day it stands in Aphrah of the Abiezrites. ~Judges 6:24, NIV

Wonderful ~ Beyond Understanding

He replied, "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding." ~Judges 13:18, NIV

Dear heavenly Father, We praise You, because You are our praise. You humble and discipline us because of Your great love for us, so that we might know the joy of depending on You. Every ability that we have, including the ability to produce wealth, is because of You, and not from our own efforts. Thank You for not playing favorites, and for defending the cause of the powerless and weak and needy. Thank You for being our Rock. What comfort that brings. How grateful we are that you find us, shield us, care for us, guard us as the apple of Your eye, hover over us like a mother, and carry us on Your wings. You are our security, our safety, our source, our salvation. Only You can bestow true Peace, because You are Peace. Your name is beyond understanding, too wonderful for mere words. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
