School in AugustA Poem by CatTFor some reason, one of my most clear memories of school is sitting near the air conditioning unit when it was hot outside. So many sensory memories still hanging around.I remember coming in from recess. Going happily to my desk. It was late August, But no matter, I was the lucky one Next to the air conditioner Hanging out the window. I reached my hands toward the front of the unit, Feeling the cold air blowing them. I slipped my feet out of my flip flops And placed them flat on the cold floor, Making a contented sigh As my flesh cooled. But most of all, the smell. The indescribable smell of an air conditioning unit Running on high. Deeply I would breathe it in, The chill of the air and the scent Mixing in my nose. Those hot days, I hated to hear the last bell ring. Time to go home, And away from my air conditioned Heaven In a classroom In a small country town. © 2014 CatTReviews
