Melodramatic rendering of my sadness when my husband leaves for work every night.
The door closes with a whoosh, Followed by sudden silence. You're gone again, And my task of whiling away the lonely hours Has begun. Every night, this drama. My heart aches as you walk away. In the quiet, I search for comfort. Nothing is quite right when you aren't here.
Maybe I pick up a book And slip away to another world. Maybe I turn on the television And just zone out. No matter, though. When the reading or watching is done I find myself again facing the loss of you.
Sad, but silly, Are the feelings haunting me. After all, You are only gone to work.
Wow I love this, I can feel what you feel! And I can really sympathize with the part about slipping away in a book. I really liked how you took a simple thought and emotion and turned it into something much more complex and real, filled with imagery. Great write!

The moon can't settle to its work. Our cats
who know a thing or two
about the cyclical nature of existence
wander in and out of kitchen, follow
scents of other animals in the flower-beds.
There is a stillness that does not feel right. It feels
like imminence, like the words we should have
said last night, or not at all, and which
remain unsaid between us. This
emptiness she always leaves behind her
is all-consuming. While she is away
the minutes crumble and the hours decay.
Just to show maybe these are feelings we all have had at some point.

This reminds me of my mother as she does not work and sometimes wants my dad around for more time, but ends up having to let him go. I like those two first lines, it really sets the tone and theme very well.

I am a writer just starting out. I've tinkered with writing in the past, but generally abandoned most projects before they were finished. Or finished them and decided they were s**t and threw them a.. more..
