No Longer Lovers

a poem about so-called "soulmates" who were in love, but only fell apart.

You told me you wouldn’t be like all of the rest

But then you still went and ripped my heart right out of my chest

You broke my heart

I guess we did end up falling apart.

We are no longer lovers

We don’t even talk with all the others

We never talk

Maybe that’s for the best

But why did you rip my heart out of my chest?

You broke my heart

I guess we did just fall apart

They said “it won’t last”

I guess I should’ve believed what was said in the past.

We are no longer lovers

You definitely proved me wrong

To be honest

I should’ve known we wouldn’t last long.

But right now, I’m finally at my best.

You broke my heart

We fell apart

You believed that stupid lie

And now I lay here and cry.

We are no longer lovers

We don’t even talk with all of the others

We never talk

Maybe that’s for the best

this poem is about my personal experience over going through a breakup with someone who I thought was my soulmate but we only fell apart because of rumors and lies.

Unfortunately, love is just like that. Life has a way of revealing love's true intent as well as strength. The more you live the more you will find love invading your life in many different ways. But in the end it is your choice as well as measure of how much you are willing to accept it and sacrifice for it. Because that is the only thing you control. You have no say on whether someone will love you the same way back. You can only hope they do, but it is their choice only. This is a strong poem filled with emotion.
