Peace

Peace

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Written in 1980. Hope for peace had chance then. What happen to the dream?

"

                                   Peace

(A old poem written when age was my advantage.)
I went to the forest.
I prayed to the sun, the old willow trees.
I sat in the mist of the wild flowers.
I asked the Great Spirit to listen.

I dreamed an old dream.

Peace, will come one day.

One day in my life,
I will awake and all children will be safe from violence and hate.

A world of no hate, no violence and all women and children will have
shelter and food.

A utopia of love and peace.
Where education and well being is the concern of a parent.
Not if their son or daughter will fight and died in wars?

Peace I want to see.
Deep in my mind and heart.
I pray for a world where all people have opportunity and hope.

One day where men and women can give thanks for a new day.
Where religion is to prosper the soul and spirit.
Not teach death and murder.

Someday I will wake up in a peaceful place.
One day I hope and pray.

Man anger and hate can fade away to myth and old story.

I pray today for my children and all children.
Men lose their madness to kill all that is beautiful.

Time is very short. Our children will pay for our hate and mistakes.

At least in my generation, the world will become better.
Religion will be used to heal people and not preach killing in letter.

People will value character and not worship looks
Beauty will be seen as a thing to be at heart and not what make-up undertook

Schools will teach poetry, schools will teach hope
History will not be repeated, Stories will change
We all had an altar, which we still can blaze

All I see around me is now, children pressurised to achieve
Girls and boys crying in front of the mirrors
with 'In am not perfect' thought, always on the weave
Digging nails into their skin

Roads in London, Mumbai: with people crying alone
Lot of pain hidden, being judged all along

I wish I could wake up too
At least, one day before I die
When everyone is happy
and I need not write any more cry

Same thoughts as you, my friend
Time has been changing
love is waning
People.

We write and write
words have power
if words in the book can preach
These words of yours teach
Morals, love & hope

I hope the elders were right
Each word has a spirit
let the kindness abide
and make the world alright

This is something that we all are searching for whether we know it or not. It's just a shame that peace seems to be so hard to grasp hold of in our world.
"Time is very short. Our children will pay for our hate and mistakes." This line is very true.. although it feels like we are trapped in this cycle of hate and mistakes.

This is a beautiful heart-felt piece. It means as much today as it did back then, more so maybe. If everyone really wanted peace, there would be peace. Perhaps one day, it will come. Sorry to point out you've written "woman" twice where it should say "women". An outstanding poem though. Thank you.

I remember this year well. i had just entered secondary school and war and atrocities were part of our lives each night, thankfully for us, only through television and radio. It was a struggle to keep up with all the conflicts (that we were allowed to hear about) and i remember thinking that our worries as teenagers were miniscule compared to millions of others. This piece took me back to those days. We havent come that far, have we?
Superb write. Exceptional.

I love this. Probably because I've been advocating peace my whole life and this is practically a 'poster-child' poem for the idea. It's very inspirational and realistic. Thank you.

My favorite line, "...anger and hate can fade away to myth and old story."

How wonderful it would be to see this come to fruition. We must keep hope alive, especially for our younger generations.
