Happy Mother day. Woman bare the glory and honor of protecting their children. Look into a eyes of a woman. You can learn a million stories of what life is.

         A  mother tears

She was a beauty.

My mother was 5 foot 8 inches in height.

She was a  slim young lady with dreams and hope.

She didn't listen to her parent.

She marry a man with rage and hate as his strength.

No-one would hear her cries or scream for help.

No-one would see the bruises and mental abuse given.

My step-father rarely hit her where the bruises could be seen.

He has a smile and good nature till he drank and hated everyone.

Step-father blamed the world for his screw-up life.

He told me he never had a fair chance.

His anger could not be controlled.

Wars and life left him pissed off and hateful.

I remember trying to help my mother.

I was 4 or 5 years old and try to separate and protect her.

He tossed me across the room.

She would try to fight back.

I could hear her cries as he hit her.

He was too powerful.

I was afraid even as a child he would kill her.

One evening a 23 year woman with two kids boarded

a Greyhound bus and they went to New Mexico.

She hid there doing waitress work for cash money.

We didn't come back to Michigan for years.

Step-father marry again and abused  more woman.

I learn never to hit a woman the hard way.

Back then woman didn't have safe houses.

Today I pray we don't allow fear and abuse to be hidden.

Woman and children need safe houses and protection.

Happy Mother day to my wonderful mother. She kept herself strong and positive throughout the years. We need to be thankful for someone who would risk their life so their kids could have a fair chance.

A very deep and painful write. There are so many people with a story like yours that hold it within and do not have the courage to talk about it and get help for the buried feelings they have stored. Yes, they have shelters now, where I worked in one were 18 t-shirts with a picture of the wife who did not live through their spouses abuse. Valentine

You had a strong and courageous mother who took her children on a greyhound to leave a horrible situation back when women didn't leave and it was frowned upon if they did. This is a beautiful way to tell the world what a wonderful thing she did for you.

a very beautiful and an inspiring written poem about a mother and a child- gonna do whatever it takes to save a life, love a parent. Abuses with women are absolutely horrible dreams a woman would ever dream/experience. this actually inspired me. thank you! this is encapsulating.

This is a wonderful poem on a very sad and tragic subject. I'm so glad your mother escaped that situation.

Such a wonderful poem. It made me sad though the part of the abuse toward the mother who was trying and struggling so hard to deal with the whole situation. That's what makes a mother great but it doesn't help because the children who watch or hear what's happening can get traumatized. Protection is best heeded.

Such a touching and hopeful poem to read. I feel as though the love your mother provided you and your sibling was an amazing bond and strength. This poem is saddening, but also just as amazing. I also agree that women need the protection and the words. A truly amazing poem to keep people hopeful and I'm very touched. Great write :)
