Flesh and bones

Flesh and bones

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Life is to be lived. Need to celebrate being alive.

"

          Flesh and bones

(Need a positive poem. Life is to be celebrated. Each day is a gift.)

I fell from the top of the mountain.

I stood with so many victories.

I realized too late.
They don't mean too much.

Beautiful young woman sitting between my legs.

She looked up.
Told me, "It don't matter anyway.

We are only flesh and bones."

I sat by the ocean.

Watching the her  power and  beauty.

The ocean is heartless.

So dangerous and tempting.

Woman with sad eyes sat with me.

She wished she was a better person.

I told her.

We are but flesh and bones.

In time we will fade away to distance memories.

I gave everything away.

I roamed with the poets and the musicians.

We sat late into the night together on lonely Monterey beaches.

Drinking and talking of things that was and were to be.

The singer sang a love song.

When he is done.

He told me.
" Love doesn't really mean too much.

We are but flesh and bones."

Just here awhile to try to celebrate being alive.

We danced and ran the lonely beaches.

We said a prayer to our God.
For one more day to be alive and free.

For we are but flesh and bones.

life can be cruel if you think about the 100 reasons to cry but i think life is beautiful thinking about the 1000 reasons to smile. alot of my old freinds didn't realize that which is probably why i was the last man standing with a smile. great poem is was enlightment to me :)

The refrain “we are all but flesh and bones” ensures that we focus on our own mortality, and in doing so that we make the most of each day we have left. That’s a masterful framing and refrain for the poem. I love the characters in these poems too. The way the ocean

“….heartless.
So dangerous and tempting.”

Is used to foreshadow the woman’s nature is masterful. I especially liked

The singer sang a love song.

By naming the place you make the poem exceptionally vivid.

Very sorry about your brothers.
Am an older dude who pretty much says that prayer every night. Aive and free are gifts enough for me.
Your poem is real; it is wise.
I enjoyed it.

Thanks for putting this back into the light.
Your wise words remind the reader of what we are, and what matters most.
The soul leaves the flesh and bones to reenter Earth. Live and love while you still can. I have been very blessed, through all my troubles. I am still here!
Beautiful poem.
Thank you.

Oh my gosh, that is so sad about your two brothers, I'm sure you miss them everyday. I'm sure their spirits feel your loss and loving connection to them, just so sad. Coyote, are you still around Monterrey? I live about less then two hours from there and go there often, love the place. Have you read any of John Steinbecks books, who was born in Salinas? This story of your's reminded me about, the paisano's in his books, Cannery Row, and even Tortilla Flat, ever sitting around contemplating life and living free.

Thanks for always sharing such deep and true stories with us. There is so much to learn from your experiences.

ah so true! it is always harder to write a positive poem I think - the strongest emotions are normally the more negative and they can really inspire a write - here you have a somewhat positive yet almost knowing tone - "we are but flesh and bones" - I think it still has quite a sad touch - we are but this almost - and will fade - though perhaps the positive touch of live life for the now! nice write!
