Mother didn't blink

Mother didn't blink

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Sometime in a life we must do the correct things to fix a problem.

"
                    Mother did not blink

(Abuser children and woman is not new.  We must have open eyes and educate to stop the crime. Fear and pain hide in dark corners. It  must come out and children/Woman  must have safe places to go to be safe.)

Big  sister came to me.
She was crying.
She told me Stepfather tried to touch her.

I got mad.
11 year boy anger can't do very much.
I went and told  my Mother.

Mother was cooking.
I went to her.
I told her what happened.
She goes to my sister.

My Mother face is frozen.
Her eyes do not blink.
She told me to stay with sister.
She went to the kitchen.

I sat with my sister.
She is afraid.
I told her it will be OK.

I went to my Mother.
She has the tea pot on the burner.
She smiled at me..
Gave me a hug.
Kissed my forehead.

She told me to go to my room with my sister.
"If I hear a scream.
Stay in the room.
Don't come out."

She took the tea pot to my Stepfather.
We heard a scream.
The ambulance came and take my Stepfather to the hospital.

He told the police.
It was an accident.

He never tried to touch my sister again.

Mother smile.
Wrapped her arms around us.
"Whispers no-one will hurt my children."

"I will die for you."

My mother is a smart and kind woman. Somethings can't be allowed. This happen a long time ago. But the memory of a child is strong.

This problem is more common than the word common. We as a society across the world tend to ignore and turn the other cheek to abuse of all types. That is how it is enabled to continue. Violence, sex, mental, physical. All of it is unacceptable, yet permitted? There is something that is, sadly, more wrong than the ones committing the crimes... us, society. Thank you for sharing such an important message, as all of your work is.

Sadly, this happens very often throughout the world. This poem was heart-breaking, yet it encourages us to stand up for what is right. As most of your poems are, this is wonderfully written, and the message within the poem is magnificent. Wonderful write, and thank you for sharing.

I agree with this write and like how powerfully you have portrayed your mothers love. I honestly believe that they should be tortured and killed them on national television. I guess my rage is so strong from having experienced situations as such and the fact that it's everywhere. Excellent write Coyote. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I didn't realize until I read the author's note that this is a true story from your life. This is what a true mother would do for her children. I get so disgusted and infurated when I hear a story about a child is raped and then tells their mom and they tell the child that they are lieing!!! I am like you have got to be freaking kidding me! Why aren't you being a protector and supporter of your children!
Yes that would be one of those memories that seems to be hard to forget, kudos to your mom for being a real mother. You get a 100 from me because this is such a strong poem and it is told so very well.

It is very nice to see someone taking up an issue like this that is so prevalent in every society and express it through a poem.. Nicely done :)

This was a great write Coyote. I imagined the whole things as it happened and could see it with my own eyes with the little visual description it had, but the story behind it could tell itself. I'm so glad for mother's like yours who will actually stick up for their children. Sometimes people are so blinded by the love they have for their significant other that they wouldnt think that they would do anything. But it's women, and men as well, like your mother that are good enough parents to go against their love for their significant other that they believe the love for their children enough. This was sad yet very touching. Showing just how far parents are willing to go for their children. Great write! Keep writing! :)

When my eldest brother was a kid the adult son of a family down the road tried luring him inside the house with sweets and films. He told our mother and she went down their with a ruddy great kitchen knife and started threatening them all. This family was tough and had criminal connections too. A mother's love is brave and strong.
Great realistic and crisp poem, Coyote.
