Drinking is the soldier pleasure, Rich the treasure, sweet the plesure. Sweet is pleasure after pain. John Dryden.) The soldier Bacchus prayer. ( April is poetry month. This is new poem number twenty-seven.) The young soldier asked Sgt. C. You drink, you dance, you sing and you love the Texas gals. Can’t you find one you can keep. Sgt. C. told the soldier, us soldiers are just waiting for death. We must be kind. Making promises that can’t be kept, they our promises that can kill a pretty girl heart. I won’t do this. The young soldier told Sgt. C. Drinking, the dark taverns and the kind ladies. Is this enough? Sgt. C. told the young soldier. If you want love, if you want to see your babies born and grow. You must leave the Army before the call of death find you. A soldier life is a good life. Travel, good friends and knowing laughter. But the sad part. Us soldiers always leaving. We love the new cities, new pretty faces and the taste of whiskey. The young soldier saw heaviness in Sgt. C. face and he told him. I understand. I am getting marry in the Winter and I will leave the Army in two months. When will you leave the Army Sgt. C. Sgt. C. smiled and he told the soldier. I will leave when I find something I truly need.
