Deluded love, broken promises and melancholy dreams...A Poem by Coyote PoetryFinally some new poetry. Was a rough month. Work and the death of my niece.Deluded love, broken promises and melancholy dreams… 1- Deluded love.. Pretty Peggy came to me at midnight, carrying Hemingway whiskey and a hopeful smile. I saw in her eyes, I was her last place to go to. Once a beauty, once so strong. Now she became a leftover memory and I told her. Please come in and rest. I do miss you. She embrace me and she asked me. Can I stay a few days. I told her. Dear Peggy. You are always welcome in my home. A soft tear fell and I told her. You and me had accepted a deluded love. Maybe we will learn one day. We need each other. 2- Broken promises… Peggy called me from Florida and she asked. Please come to see me, I am so damn lonely. Please soldier boy, come to Cocoa Beach. I told her I was on leave and I would come. I can spend a week with you dear Peggy. I traveled from Michigan to Cocoa beach in two days. We met near the Atlantic and she embraced me. I told her. Dear Peggy, this is our third tried. Are we speaking broken promises to each other again? Her eyes heavy with sadness and she whispered. Johnnie, Johnnie. What is left of me? I told her. I am here now and let’s make today. Our best day. 3- Melancholy dreams.. In Cocoa Beach, Peggy drank a lot and she held me tightly. I caressed her like a cat needed attention and I knew. She was lost and she didn’t want to be found. She was kind, she was sweet. She cooked excellent meals daily and she never left me. I asked her. What do you need dear Peggy? She brought me close and she whispered. Melancholy dreams is all I am, melancholy thoughts is what I became. Johnnie, Johnnie. You sought great dreams and you are doing them. I have accepted less and thank you for coming to my home. You are always welcome dear John. I left her to go to Fort Hood, Texas. I saw in her eyes. Sadness because I was leaving and I saw happiness I wasn’t staying. I remember our last words she told me. I love you Johnnie, please don’t forget me. Coyote © 2024 Coyote PoetryAuthor's Note
