Almost love...A Poem by Coyote PoetryApril, poetry month new poetry number nine.Almost love.. I would take you anywhere your heart desired. You were long and tall, coffee brown eyes and the wildest soul, I have ever known. We loved cigarettes, we loved the Gentleman Jack whiskey and we were not afraid of anything except boredom. I knew I was blessed to have you near. I knew when a pretty gal blessed me with her smile, her laughter and she held my hands in the cities of California. I was a lucky man. We danced on the quiet midnight beaches of Monterey and Big Sur. You were my ocean dream and I adored you. You taught me to drink the whiskey straight and you taught me to suicide board the Pacific Ocean in the Winter storms. I taught you to listen to the words in the poetry, to love books and to free-climb the free mountains near. You told me often, Johnnie. Better to listen than to talk. If we listen to the sea, she will tell us stories about brave people, lovers who never gave-up and teach us. We must make this day our best days. Dearest Gail, I miss you today. I told you I loved you the day I left you for another deployment. You told me. We had almost lovers dear John. And we had more. We were friends. Dancing Coyote © 2024 Coyote PoetryAuthor's Note
