The Texas two-step...A Poem by Coyote PoetrySome memories, some little poetry. The Texas two-step.. 1- A pretty gal asked me to dance in Belton, Texas. I asked her. Are you a college gal? She smiled and she told me. I am thirteen and I saw you alone. Looking lonely and sad. No soldier should feel alone in Texas. The Texas two-step keeps us moving and smiling. 2- I had fell in love with Texas. One year away from the USA made me need dance and song. A woman with her daughter came to me. The pretty woman told me. My daughter told me, it is almost Christmas and you have no family in Texas. I saw concern and kindness in her eyes and I asked her. Can I buy you a drink? She smiled and she took my hands. She told me. No peace in the whiskey, no peace in being alone. My brother was a soldier in the Vietnam war. Agent orange took him away from us in 1992. Please come and sit with us. Me and my daughter would appreciate the company. My name is Isabel and my daughter name is Tiffany. We like to talk and we like to dance. Here in Texas, the Texas two-step, we do love and making new friends. 3- I volunteered for another war zone. I was going to Bosnia on a peace mission. I went to Belton, Texas. I needed one more night of song and drink. I sat alone at the bar and someone kissed my face. I was kissed on the cheek again and Isabel/ Tiffany was standing near and smiling. They asked. Where you been Johnnie? We wrote you letters, hoping and praying you were okay. I hugged them both and they dragged me to their table. Tiffany told me. Why didn't you call us when you returned. We set a plate for you at Thanksgiving and Christmas. You are our family now Johnnie. I felt a tear fall and I told them. I don't deserve you both. Willie Nelson song "Angel flying too close to the ground." Isabel took my hand and we went to the dance floor and we did the Texas two-step in silence. After the dance. She smiled and she told me. I know you are leaving again. You love the damn wars and remember In Texas. Two Texas gals are waiting for you. I went to Bosnia, I did what I could and I returned to Texas. I went to Tiffany/ Isabel farm outside of Belton and they greeted me with hugs and kisses. Tiffany told me. I am glad you are home with us Johnnie. Coyote © 2023 Coyote PoetryAuthor's Note
