I drink the whiskey, I write and I remember...A Poem by Coyote PoetryJust some words.I drink the whiskey, I write and I remember... I chased her, she chased me. We didn't know we were just babies reaching for a miracle. I drink the whiskey now, I write the midnight poetry. And I remember everything. It is 2am in Michigan. I sit alone, I drink alone and I write alone. Once I needed conversation and now I love silence. I remember a rosy cheek gal with a smile of gold. She told me, I will love you forever. I didn't know, forever. Was just another word to break my heart. Now I drink the Gentleman Jack whiskey and I remember Hemingway. I wonder what did Hemingway think before blowing out his brains? I told the whiskey. Thank you for my grandchildren. They keep me going forward. I told the night, Johnnie is so tire. Tired of the wars, tired of the hate, tired of the men seeking war over peace. Two of my grandchildren reached the age of fourteen. I wonder, what kind of world did I leave them? I drink the whiskey, I write poetry and I worry for my world. Coyote
