The loveliest girl in Michigan.A Poem by Coyote PoetryNine new Poems. Old muse came alive.Loveliest girl in Michigan.. Old soldier drinking alone in Port Austin, Michigan and he knew. He had learn too late. Love is fleeing moments that cannot be caught. He know now. Love can become a distance dream. He remembered a Michigan beauty, loveliest girl in Michigan. Her voice was soft, her eyes, more green than the Upper Michigan vast forest. And she was kind to him. She told him on a May-day, a warm Spring day. You love the Army life, you love to see new things. And one day. Your want of adventure, will make you forget me. I will become a wisp of a memory to you. He told her. I won't forget the loveliest girl in Michigan. Who is so sweet, so kind. She laughed at his words and she requested a day at Port Auston and sweet wine at Blake cider mill. He told her in the late days of May. I will always remember you and I will always love you. She kissed him once and she held him tightly. She whispered. Love needs more than promises. Love needs two people yearning and needing to spend a lifetime together. Now the war torn soldier had found Port Austin again. Now his love is the whiskey. He glanced at old photos and he told the night. Please tell the loveliest girl in Michigan. She was right. Promises can be broken and love can be forgotten. I still remember you and I still love you and the warm days of May. Dancing Coyote © 2023 Coyote PoetryAuthor's Note
