We must slow down my darling..

We must slow down my darling..

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Trying to awake my muse and amazing music.

"
We must slow down my darling...
Drunkest poet, drunkest soldier in Austin, Texas. He wrote to a journal.
"Nothing is lost,
nothing is gain,
we will back step,
we will fall forward
and we will get up.
This is all we can do."
A pretty Texas gal sat with him with the saddest eyes in Texas and
she whispered. Johnnie seeking love in the Long Island ice teas again
and writing dead man poetry. He turned and he faced her.
He told her. Ellen, my Texas rose. Where you been hiding?
She laughed and she told him. Like you, writing s**t and drinking more.
Johnnie, we love skin and whiskey. We hate love and we like being alone.
How many times have I found you praying for nothing, wanting nothing and relearn.
Broken people seek little,
we are naked souls with nothing left to give and
we speak of love and hate in the same sentence.
He reached over to her. He kissed her once and he kissed her again.
He whispered I miss you my beautiful Ellen.
She took his hands and she studied them. Rough hands, Army hands and
she kissed them. She looked at him and she asked him.
Are you seeking death, are you seeking life Johnnie?
He told the bartender, two triple shots of the Jack Daniel and the coldest beers please.
Ellen looked hard at him and she asked him?
Time for us to get dirty,
time for us to swim in the mud.
Do you want this?
He kissed her face, he kissed her neck and he kissed her warm mouth.
He asked her. Where are we going? What do we want?
She told him. I need company, I don't need pity.
I want someone to dance with me,
sleep with me and drink coffee with me at 6am.
I want someone like you.
You have seen the worst of men and you are still standing.
I am standing too my darling.
Let's slow down dear Johnnie.
I could use some kindness.
He smiled. Could I make you smile?
She smiled and she whispered. Only you can.
They drank the whiskey and they left the tavern together.
The Lady bartender smiled and she hope her two friends.
Could find some peace.

This is so much the dark, truthful stuff of a drink sodden relationship. Do they know, do they care, are they aware of the time they share, John?

'Are you seeking death, are you seeking life Johnnie?
He told the bartender, two triple shots of the Jack Daniel and the coldest beers please.
Ellen looked hard at him and she asked him?
Time for us to get dirty,
time for us to swim in the mud.
Do you want this?'

And that is how it goes, time and time: warmth and more juggled into a take away session between two needy but unaware people who left the tavern together... but.. what then?

Such an incredible piece of writing, the unpretty, the unplanned unknown. You truly know how human beings behave across the board, John. This poem is .. superb.

This is a compelling tale, it binds you till the end. What I loved most was they found something within each other and they remained honest about it, this may not be love but it so pure, connecting and powerful.

Oh, CP, this is so good!

she is but only sleeping .. and despite having been here before, it is all too easy to get lost in your words Johnnie C .. and like those ancient stories told over and over around the campfires, I doubt I shall ever tire of them .. Neville

Two triple shots of Jack Daniel and the coldest beers. This is serious drinking, friends. I can almost hear George Jones singing in the background. These are two wounded souls, adrift in the night, each seeking an anchor in the other. May they find it before cirrhosis finds them.

Your storytelling is so compelling, you need to find a publisher

You tell this tale so well Coyote John. Rehashed it always has poignancy no matter how often Johnny is reincarnated.

I hope many more times John and thank you for reading and the comment.
Survivor story of a different kind. A Titanic passenger floating on a piece of memory. Well done, Johnnie.
