Your poem is a haunting and powerful reflection on the realities of war and the human cost of conflict. The descriptions of finding bodies in Bosnia, collecting the dead in Africa, and mercy killing in Iraq are all deeply disturbing and evoke a sense of horror and tragedy. The idea of praying for the dead is a poignant reminder of the human toll of war and the need for compassion and empathy in the face of such suffering. The final lines about war being a no-win situation are a sobering reminder of the futility and senselessness of violence. Overall, your poem is a powerful and moving exploration of the human cost of war and the need for peace and understanding in the face of such devastation.

So impactful, John! Mercy killings, the atrocities of war, putting people in body bags....the life of a soldier is filled with horrific events. These events can haunt you forever. You are right, no one wins. Lydi**

Thank you dear friend. I appreciate the strong and amazing comment.
I think that if the few, (and compared to the world population, there are few,) who start wars were obliged to be the first to go to the front line and risk death, war would disappear like so much chaff in the wind; because they are mostly cowards, hid safe in their ivory towers and with no wish to personally suffer for their 'cause.'
So too, I believe, would deprivation and starvation become a thing of the past if the despotic leaders of certain countries were forced to share in their peoples misery.
A powerful write.
Beccy.

A very graphic write
I have never been that close to death
I sympathize with you having seen the terrible things you have been exposed to and still be able to remain the sane and concerned person you are.
Every time I think of that b*****d Putin (just one of so many others) and the misery he is causing, I wonder where slime like that comes from.
It brings tears when I think of that kind of vicious slaughter and just furthers my view of what a terribly flawed species we are.
Take care.

Pretty graphic memoirs here, C. No one should have to look upon such scenes. I can't figure out why we keep doing this.

Yes John, nobody wins in war....death is rampant...bodies are not identified, just thrown into a mass grave...those who were in agony were mercifully killed... this is a world wide problem s You and many other gave your lives for their countries; some came back, wounded, others were wounded mentally; their families suffered as well.... There are no winners in war... nice write!
Best, B

You are right dear Betty. No winners in war and thank you dear friend for reading and the comment.
War is so futile but this ugliness is the result of greed from those who profess to be our leaders.
How soul destroying for you and all the soldiers who have to deal with the aftermath of war John.
