The damn road..

The damn road..

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Very old poem with a proper re-write.

"
The damn road..

It was a  cold winter day in late December.

I awoke with my love and
I kissed her face and lips and whispered. Good morning.

Her beautiful young body pressed against me so tightly.

I could  hear her heart beating against my skin and
I put my face into her flowing red hair.
I wished for this moment not to end.

I found her again.

She broke my heart years ago and
I tried to escape her memory by going to war.

The damn road put us back together again.

I escaped to war to lose her memory and now I’m  swimming in  warmth of her flesh and
looking into beautiful blue eyes yearning for laughter and joy again..

She told me I must get up.
It was getting late.

I was driving from Michigan to California that morning and
I brought  her closer and could hear the road calling me.

I watch her dressed.
She was as  beautiful as when we were young and our hunger to love was possible.

I saw in her face. The joy in her eyes to have me with her.
So funny I also saw her  desire for me to leave.

We share a meal and many tender kisses.

I waved goodbye and I saw soft tears in her eyes as I drove away and
I should of turn back and never allowed her to leave my life.

But the damn road and my heart couldn’t take losing her again.

Somehow, this made me sad.

Thank you for sharing it.

I hope it got better.

First of all, I love that song by Bobby Bare. It really brought back memories and I sang along with it. Your poem was tender and emotional. I hoped that when the man drives away, it's not for good this time. It's amazing when young love comes back into our lives. My boyfriend John (who I write about in my "Adventures with John in his Red Ford Truck" series) was my first boyfriend. I was 14 and he was 13. We were young and it didn't last. We both married others and years later we both lost our spouses. Then, miraculously we came into each other's life.

I am old school. I know. Women decide, if love or not? Thank you for reading and the comment.

Old School, Dear, old school is grand,
your welcome

they say that you win some and you lose some .. well I say sure, you win some and you lose some, but then there are those, that you just can never shake off .. they are always there, or not far away like in a memory or in spirit .. like the girl you refer so well to here ..

I agree Neville. Some people become a part of us. Us, old poets. We keep them alive with our words. .. read more

Both a lover and the open road have the same kind of magnetic pull. We are attracted to both and torn between them both at the same time. Naturally, the open road has won out in your poem since a potentially broken heart for a second time is the least desired outcome. I think some people are just so alluring to us but also dangerous to stay around with their propensity to break hearts. I enjoyed your tale from your life that reads well with your new rewrite.

Thank you Makhabat for reading and the comment. Sometimes. Some people cannot become one in life.

“I saw in her face. The joy in her eyes to have me with her.
So funny I also saw her desire for me to leave.”
Dear Coyote, you brilliantly show us the contradictions, the oxymoronic hubris of ‘eternal love’ . Modern man has no patience to allow love to be eternal. Your heartbreak told sadly, tenderly here, however, resounds with lyrical, musical, genuine honesty. Your sharing storytelling is unmatched. Love this.
