Once I prayed for dying men of war, once I prayed for the dying of starvation and once I prayed for people being killed become of religion. Dead people don't complain no-more.
Lost prayers..
Once careless man sought peace in war. He didn't learn peace. He learn the law of the gun, the law of the hate,
the law of the death whispers.
In Bosnia, little babies murdered, mama murdered because of their religion. Me and my soldiers found 24 women and children in a river, we prayed for them and I asked the night sky. Where is God?
In Death Valley. Many men were in pieces. No first aide could save them. Us soldiers, held strangers speaking different languages and we gave them the morphine. I went through the dead soldiers pockets. I found photos of their family. I prayed to the sun. Please send these men to a better place. F*****g war. Killed the best of us.
I volunteered for Africa. Me and my soldiers had to gather dead people on the road and in the cities. We dug a large pit and we dropped the children, women and men into a large pits. We burn the bodies. If we didn't. They would create sickness. They had no I.D and all we could do. Us soldiers, we prayed for them. I learn. Starvation is a hell-bound way to die.
Today I asked myself. Did our prayers have purpose? I am a old man now. My time in the military made me kinder. I learn my life wasn't so hard. Now I have five beautiful grandchildren and I know.
We must pray for the people, who cannot. I hope God is listening. I don't blame God. God gave us free-will and what did we do? We are trying to kill everything kind and sweet in our world.
I am a old soldier now and I can tell you. You and me. We are the same. We want a safe place for our children and we want peace. I don't want my grandchildren dying for old men hate.
Today I pray to the Clinton River. Please teach our leaders. Wars killed everything that is beautiful.
Your military service has well qualified you to write and speak out about the atrocities that war and men inflict on their fellow humans. You have seen the worst of man and it has made you realise just how futile war is and how stupid we humans can be to each other.
Many of us are lucky to have lived lives in relative peace but many still suffer in places around the world. If there is a God at all, I sure hope he hears your prayers. Governments, leaders and we the people ourselves really need to become wiser and more accountable for the choices we make. There is too much needless suffering in the world and it needs to end, or at the least, be minimised.
I always appreciate your writes for their honesty, wisdom and their attempts to educate us to be better people. I am glad you have found your peace in the world. Fine writing.

Thank you Doodley. I will be never be right and I have learn. Every new day is a blessing.
Wow, what an eye-opener to war. For those who have never experienced war, this poem gives just a glimpse of what a soldier must endure. Then they are expected to sleep at night: very nice work, Coyote.

Thank you dear Toni. I have written often. No winner in war. I appreciate the comment.
coyote, you write with experience, feeling and heartfelt inquiry of the big and unanswerable questions. I appreciate how you tackle them and bring the reader much to ponder or relate and validate. Thank you for your honest and creative expression of these things. I am pulled into your writings in many ways even if I haven't fully lived out some of what you have.

I met many Vietnam vets and they would tell you. They wished, they stayed home. Dear Elaine. You and me know. No-one wins in war except the war contractors. Thank you for reading and the comment. I do appreciate.
I am with you totally in your prayers. We want a safe haven for our children. The old bigots can die and go to hell. I believe prayers work, prayers are never lost. So don't stop praying sir. Something goid will come from it. Faith moves mountains.

Thank you dear Divya. I agree. We must pray and we must stand as one.
I feel that you are a man of deep regret, Coyote.
War is ugly, I know, even beyond my comprehension. People are ugly. The world is ugly.
I agree with you. It tries to kill anything sweet and beautiful.
This world, it doesn't belong to the good. It belongs to the evil.

You can only do so much, dear Coyote.
None of us are miracle workers.
Even with all of the polarzation and ill will manifesting in this country now, few of us realize how good we have it when compared to the unfortunate people in other parts of the world. I was in a reserve unit that was thankfully never called up, sparing me such scenes as you have described here. For some reason, humanity continues to pursue these activities.

Coyote, we live in such different worlds. You have seen and done things that I can only imagine, possibly not even imagine, though my life was often perilous and difficult.
But we ARE the same-
"You and me. We are the same. We want a safe place for our children and we want peace."
I appreciate your courage and compassion in the relating of what you experienced. We are all better for the wisdom it offers, Coyote.

Thank you dear poet. We must learn. We are the same and we need a safe world for every child.
There is despair in your words at having been through and seen the horrors of war and watching as this cycle of nonsensical savagery continues.
You have done your shift Coyote, and more, enjoy the rest of your life enjoying your family.
Take care my friend

God bless you for your service, even more so for the horrors you have experienced to save someone else from the same. War is hell they say but then so is life at times. Young men go to war and when they grow old they become statesmen, that send more young men to war. You would think that they had learned. If we paid more attention to Sun Tzu we would know that the best way to win is not to fight at all. A powerful write.
