Dark days of Texas. The long ride, a long time to talk.
Old Man John awoke on Sunday morning at 4 am. He kissed Wolf woman Sherry on her forehead. He told her. In two hours, we leave for Fort Concho. We must beat the heat sweetie. She opened her eyes and she told him. Leave me be John. I will be ready and waiting at 6am.
He went to the large barn and he saw Shirley inspecting the load. He adored Shirley. One of the strongest woman, he had ever met. Almost 75 years old and still wise and strong. He knew, she had other reasons to be with them. She had lived a long life and she had saw hell and back. He went to her and he hugged her. He told her, good morning Shirley. She smiled and she hugged him back. She told him, a good day to go to Fort Concho. The heat won't be so bad in the morning. I brought extra water for the horses and a lot of pork and beans. I ain't cooking. He laughed and Tammy came to them. She hugged them both and she told them. Us, early birds will see the sun rise. He had great respect for Tammy too. She was a smart woman. She had a good life that was stole from her. They killed her lover and her sister. He remembered he found her in the street lost 8 years ago. He saw the soldier stare in her eyes and he pity her. He befriended her and Wolf Woman tried to heal her. Now she was connected to them.
Within a hour, Kurt and Jalan showed up. Looking rough and they were silence. Ready to get on the road. Shirley told him. Those boys look like death came by twice. He laughed as Wolf woman Sherry slowly walked to them. He told her good morning and she told them. Is there coffee Tammy. Tammy smiled and she told her. I know my sleeping beauty need her coffee and she gave her a large cup. Jalan, Kurt, Old man John and Wolf woman Sherry rode their horses. Tammy and Shirley sat on the horse and wagon. They left at five thirty sharp.
Old Richard knew where Dirty Deed Eric was. Took him two days to pass the Colorado river. He saw the ghostly hills and he knew. Eric and his gang would be relaxing in the caves. The caves were built by a old tribe, that was gone now. Eric told him often. Richard. Once a great people took safety here. He went in slowly into the Ghostly Hills. Yelling, hello anything. It is me, Richard. He saw a large man appear and he went to him. Eric hugged him and he handed the note from Amber. Eric read the note and he thanks him. He asked Richard. Were you followed? He told him. I wasn't and Loca Amber send them to a nearby location where you will have the advantage. Eric laughed and he told Richard. Old man John. He found me once and he will find me again. This time. One of us will be dead. He handed Richard thirty gold pieces and he told him. Go to New Mexico for awhile. Richard smiled and he told him. I will go New Mexica. Stay safe my old friend. Eric watched Richard go west and he told the morning. Damn fighting will never stop till everyone is dead.
Cheryl Lee came out and she was barefoot. She had her shotgun on her hip and she asked. What did Old Richard say. He brought her closer and he kissed her. He told me, don't get killed. She laughed and she whispered. I agree Eric. He walked into the caves and he told Dominic and Eddie. Get ready. Maybe our last fight. Remembered we must kill Berserker Kurt first.
If we don't. He will kill the all of us. He is the last legend of death in old Texas. They agreed.
Old man John didn't push the horses hard. He believe in two days. Dirty Deed Eric would find him. He knew, he was being hunted and when the prey is going to the predator. He will die. Kurt lite the opium pipe. Jalan asked, can I try? Kurt smiled and he gave the pipe to Jalan. He smoked the opium deeply and he smiled. He told him. Ain't so bad, like a strong cigar that keep the anger away. Kurt told him. It does sometimes my friend. It make the bad dreams go away. Jalan asked, how is your California girl. He told him. Beth is the kindest and warmest woman, I ever known. She told me. Stay in California. Only things in Texas is more death and more misery. How you doing with dear Selena? She had been running the w***e house for 10 years. Maybe time for you to settle down. You drink like a fish and you can be mean as hell. Jaden laughed and he told him. You and I, we are hell bound and seeking the good death. Men who love the battle of the gun. They will be killed by the gun.
Shirley held Tammy hand and she asked. Why are we here? Can we save crazed men from killing each other? Tammy looked sad and she told her. I have nothing left and I don't know why I am here. I love Old man John and Wolf woman Sherry. We can't stop crazed men from killing each other. We are riding toward death. Shirley told her. Eric is waiting for us. He is like his father Walker. He saw the beginning and the ending. I pray I can save him?
Old man John told Wolf woman Sherry. I am sorry for destroying your life and I pray every night for men and women, I have killed. You are a medicine woman and why are with us? She looked hard at him and she told him. Every night, you have nightmares and I caress your face. My Apache husband killed and killed too. He told me. We fight and we fight. I am so tire my little one. He knew. He would die by the gun and you will die by the gun too. I want to bury you. There is no clean people and we will know death and we must take from life. The good things we have received. For almost twenty years. You and I had survived, loved, danced and sought good life. I appreciate you and I love you. He told her. I love you dear Sherry.
A small sign showed-up and it said. 10 miles to Fort Concho.
