Very nice personification of the Pacific here. I had never thought of an ocean as relatable to an orchestra, but I think the poet's comparison is a good one. He also compares it to a woman (This is Coyote, after all.), and this one is even better. The uncontrollable aspect is especially apt. I don't know about the dancing in storms part, though. I live near the Atlantic, and during hurricane season, that chick likes to play rough.

This is quite the poem!
I believe that behind the smartly woven words and figures of speech lies a very honest truth...
Water gave us life. She's loving and nurturing. But when you disrespect her too much, giver turns to taker.

We live among the gulf islands with lakes all around and are well aware of the influence and pleasure of both salt and freshwater
We lived for a short while inland but it could never compete with the glory of the extensive lakes and islands all around us in this area

Thank you Dave for reading and the comment. I liked the water near. Keep my mind sane.
Romantic as ever, you, John! What a a wonderful poem, because so much of what you've written is true as true!
Sitting or standing near open water is more than beautiful music, it brightens, it lulls, it awakens , it scares. Is all forms of emotion. I live amid green, and happy with that.. but admit to going here or there in this county to walk by or watch the sea dance or float silver surfaced under a fading Summer sun. It's a reminder that a shore can be restful keeper or recipient of all times kind or otherwise. You've raised so many pictures in my mind, my own salt trickles! Thank you, John. This is a memorable poem.. truly. Keep safe, sir.

When I was a very young child, growing up in Wales, my homeland, we would often as a family, take weekend trips to the beautiful and secluded bays of the Gower peninsula. We would picnic, take walks along the beaches and explore; all the while, the different sounds of the sea, a background of sheer poetry.
Sadly, we left Wales when I was only ten, but I return often, and though as you say, the oceans are dangerous and cannot be controlled, they are also both magical and captivating.
A lovely, lovely poem.
Beccy.

The undertow there is really strong, but luckily, and even though he was no longer that young, he was very fit and an extremely good swimmer and survived. But I still recall how terrified grandma and my sister and I were, when he disappeared beneath the water several times before making it back. So like you, whilst I love the sea, I very much respect its power.
Coyote, a poem that speaks not only to love but the power of a woman (and the ocean), and how her music can draw us in, captivate us and drown out all others. This is love, isn't it? Beauty, power, and dangerous in one place and time. One to embrace for sure.
