His passing was such a loss to the artistic world; that ability to write poetry and turn poetry into song is such a valuable skill to possess. While most of my generation will remember him for his wonderful "Hallelujah" his entire body of work is so much more than that. There were wisdom in his lines and wisdom in your lines here, Coyote. A lovely tribute to a wonderfully talented gentleman. Much enjoyed this one! :)))

I have limited exposure to leonard's work so i'm not much of an authority... I however have heard some of his spoken words in the past and enjoyed them. All great songwriters are poets in my mind if the expression you are singing isn't one of a true emotive composition the music is crap in my opinion:/ I honestly don't think the voice is as important an instrument as the instrument of expression

I always liked listening to Leonard. His line, "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in." was taken indirectly from Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, "There is a crack in everything God has made." Without our imperfections we would be far less unique and beautiful. I enjoyed the read my friend.

dear John... a lovely refrain as the voice of Leonard Cohen remains
in our hearts forever and a day. Soul searching as his song of Hallelujah ... we may live each day as a Prayer for healing and blessings. truly, Pat

Thank you for this poem on the great Leonard Cohen. I must read more of his work. The way you have recapitulated his words makes me awed at all the beauty of love captured. Thinking deeply on the subject, his philosophy was so on point when he says, love find you, you do not find love. Indeed, why do we chase something that is every man's destiny? In my view, every man will find love at some point in his spiritual journey. Hence, the wisdom is in readying ourselves, making ourselves worthy of love and in waiting. Kudos for such awesome poetry, dear sir.

Leonard Cohen's words will live on for many years to come. They were raw and honest and so many of us could identify with the words...and the melodies. Your words, John, do him justice. A lovely tribute. Lydi**

Thank you dear Lydia. I agree. Leonard Cohen's song are ever-lasting and timeless.
A very unique talent who explored many aspects of life ... love ... religion. I have been listening to his music since his first album. Those songs underscored my youth and also added a deeper dimension to my own writing. I suppose if I had to pick a favourite it would be "The Guests".
Not only is his poetry good, but his songs evoke an atmosphere that is hard to match. The melodies are never quite what you think they're going to be ... but they are are always a perfect match for the words.
A fine tribute friend.
Take care ... be safe.
