       Looking for Hemingway

It is happy hour at the Monterey wharf, I was looking for Earnest Hemingway. I ordered two double shots of Irish whiskey. I put one in front of me and one in front the empty seat near me.

A pretty woman with dark brown eyes, curvy body and summer dress sat with me. She smiled and she asked me, You always drink with ghosts? The ghost, you are waiting for is on the coast of South America. He don't like Monterey in late May. Earnest liked the tropic in late Spring.

She took the whiskey shot and she downed the whiskey. She smiled at me and she told me. My name is Florentina, a comrade of Mr. Hemingway. We get along, us writer's like to discuss everything we cannot fix. Me and Earnest can drink till closing time and we skinny dip in the Monterey bay after. You can say, we are both foolish and crazy.

I told my name is Johnnie, not as brave as Hemingway, but with enough Irish whiskey. I would be tempted to skinny dip with a beautiful lady.

She smiled, took both my hands, she kissed them both. She gave me a devilish smile and she whispered. I feel the deep regret of things gone and I feel the energy of a dangerous man. The night is young, the whiskey is strong and the sea is cold. Let's  make Ernest smile at 3 am. We will be bare a*s, knowing a lot of laughter and we shall know great company. Always a blessing to have a friend close when the night is cold.

I don't know that it takes such courage to understand life. There must have been a time that came for Ernest when the act of understanding was outweighed by the need to escape. One does not, after all, eat a double barreled twelve gauge for the pure satisfaction of the act. I do believe he was a very practical fellow and saw life on his own terms without being overly melodramatic about the thing. So his end might have been simply, (Well, now, that will just be enough of this!) I do know that of the many works I have read of his, he seemed completely unapologetic in his demeanor and person. I believe he was a man who lived as close to the motto of having no regrets as a man could live. I believe, also, that drinking with beautiful women is to be preferred at any time to drinking with ghosts; particularly ghosts that were partial to drinking alone.

Hemingway is one of my favorite authors so your title drew me in right away but your story is simply captivating and makes me want to go out and grab a pint of Irish Whiskey and drive to the ocean! I imagine you have many a similar story to tell my friend. A great write this is!

sad, playful ... almost melancholy ... i just knew the curves would enter the picture somewhere my friend ;) and i love this line especially:
" We get along, us writer's like to discuss everything we cannot fix."

You have famous ghosts in London. Ghosts can appear when they desire.

Just words what can create illusion of happines and mellancholy. I like how you chose simply words but they are very powerful when I read them. There is nothing much to say. This is great.
