A California a-dreaming

A California a-dreaming

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

I left California coastline in 1993. Going back in four day.

"

                      A California a-dreaming

Once on a full moon night in the Winter of 1992, I found my true love.
I saw her dancing and moving for me and she bewitched my heart forever.

I walked slowly to her and I took off my shoes.
allowed her to caress my tire feet.

She whispered to me,
dear traveler, you are safe with me.

I sat with the full moon above and I told the stars.
She is more beautiful than anything I ever seen.
She is everlasting  and perfect.

I knew the Hemingway prayer.
"We love the women, we love the whiskey and we love the sea.
Blessings for the man who need to test and celebrate life."

Me and my love became great friends.
Every chance I could.
I walked the Fort Ord to  Pacific Grove coastline.
She caressed my feet and she whispered tales of great journey,
of the great loves who walked upon the gentle sand once

I left my love in 1994 and I knew.
I would yearn for her every day till we could meet again.
I told the Pacific.
Thank you my kind lady.
You made a soldier forget war and violence,
you taught me how to dance with the storms.
You made me believe in the Hemingway ways.

Last place for a wounded to heal, is the kind sea.
Listen to her.
The song of the sea.
Kind and sweet to us who pay attention.
Thank you my Pacific Ocean.
Johnnie is coming home.

Gorgeous words to describe your romance with the sea. Calming, soothing, healing, lifting spirits. Love this one Coyote and I also adored the Mamas and Papas as a young girl growing up in the 60's. California Dreamin being one of them, and I saw her again last night being another. Have a great day my friend.

Great song John and the imagery of the sea is one that draws you in. I always like the sounds of waves crashing and the seagull's calling.

In your emotional poem, I can feel everything that I also love about living in this area by the Big Sur coastline. I don’t think I’ve read a more heartfelt poem from you. This one really sings the lullaby to your long-lost love. I’m so happy for you that you’ll be dipping your toes here soon. The fog has been keeping things cooler than usual, so bring some sweaters! *wink! wink!* Bon Voyage & best wishes for safe travels & interesting acquaintances! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Me and my daughter. I can't wait and thank you Margie for reading and the comment.
Whenever I hear the mama's and the Pappas I always think of California no matter what song it is so your choice of music was perfect for me. Your use of personification is fitting for this poem. Your feelings for the state and the sea show through in every verse.

Nicely done, Coyote.

So beautifully profound... moving in every way. Can hear the roar of those waves and the soft tenderness of your voices shared. It is bittersweet to see those paths from life before, wondering, wishing, and waiting to see what paths might cross again one day. Powerful, my friend.
