                 Too late dear lover

Dear Cheryl. Somewhere in the city of sin. I heard you die alone. Few cried tears for you. I did.

I remembered you. You were a wild child with dead eyes and sadistic life. You were something I couldn't have and somehow we fell together.

In a late night taverns in Detroit. We found each other and we drank and danced till the midnight hour. You told me often. You can make me laugh and make me feel okay. My life is s**t and dear Johnnie. Please stay with me. Some sin isn't dirty. My lips need your kiss, my skin demand you closer and I won't accept just dance and song.

We found the dark motels on Gratiot ave. We stripped bare and made dangerous wishes come true. I remember telling you. Dear Cheryl. My wildflower and siren. We are dancing on broken glass and rock. Love cannot be for us.

I heard you die alone in Las Vegas. I prayed the kind Gods could forgive you and accept you in paradise. Your life hard and twisted.  I said a prayer to Lake St. Clair for you.

                  " Dear Lord
Please dear Lord. A friend is coming to you.
Please treat her kindly.
A broken angel who knew so little kindness on this earth.
Please Lord.
No-one is perfect.
Give her places where she can know peace.
Allow her to find places where she can dance and sing.
Allow her harden skin to heal.
Please take care of my dear friend Cheryl."

Poor Cheryl die alone in the city of sin and few cried for her. I don't know if I could of saved her? Maybe I became another knife in her already broken and beaten heart?

Beautiful Cheryl. I do remember you. My wild child lady who tempted my heart and soul.  The sad part was, I was dead too in heart and soul.  We were two Gypsy heart seeking peace in the flesh and we forgot to allow the heart to know love.

Such a precious message to a haunting/haunted friend. I've often fallen in with the misfits of life, so I very much appreciate the way you paint their lives with a stark honesty that's also filled with compassion & understanding. This is a beautiful tribute to a sad life and I can feel those lingering questions in your mind . . . (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

What an amazingly beautiful and likewise sad tribute to a past love and tragic loss. These words made me grieve for a girl called Cheryl I never met, or knew and that is what makes a great write........N

Absolutely spot on and my pleasure entirely....N
a sad truth....
I see that you say "just words"....
I gather that it is totally fabricated...making it even more amazing and powerful ....would stir anyone's mind and heart

Not fabricated. A story from my past. Us writers use old memories to seek peace and maybe forgivenes.. read more
The Coyote howls just words, in disbelief,
While watching for the moon to disappear.
He turns his thoughts to momentary grief,
and wonders if poor Cheryl’s ghost will hear.

The beeping countdown never seems to end.
and tells him somehow, life now disapproves.
She grabs his mind and turns it left to send,
a memory, but nothing much improves.

Then when a new leaf turns and it’s a prayer,
which seems to offer chances or their lives.
Could that be just one more thing to despair?
No clue to show us from where it derives.

Another look shows us there is nothing’s left—
What difference if she left the world bereft?

Thank you Norbanus. I liked and I appreciate the poetry.
This is so intensely melancholic & beautiful! I could actually feel the intensity of the writers feeling, as it came straight from heart.
Love's a hard way to tread on, but then they are just some fortunate ones who succed, while others just can't cover-up the painful void created by someone whom they loved the most...And all they can do the best, is pray for the other person whom God removed forever for the rest of their lives sigh*

Your author note says, says this piece is 'just words'....Sorry, but those are not just words, but the emotional words, Exactly expressing the writers thought.

Thankyou so much for sharing this piece, dear Coyote 😊 it was an immense pleasure, reading it.

Wow this is so deep and though provoking. Especially that line. It really strict me because so many people are these broken angels and you really captured that. Thank you, this is incredible and I’m excited for more:)

Even though it made me very sad for hours, I couldn't stop admiring the poem and the poet!
“We are dancing on broken glass and rock.”- raw and dark memorial for your “broken angel” Coyote...dancing in the dark- two needy souls on the edge..your beautiful, tender prayer for Cheryl made me cry. R.I.P. and may God bless her and heal her.
