The war is over

The war is over

                               The war is over

The war is over for you, my friend.
The taps was played.
Many soldiers stood near your grave.
A soldier is resting now and he had found peace under six feet of dirt.

I wondered?
Do the dead soldier find peace?
The sound of guns and bombs are silence now for them.
The soldier life of blood and guts left behind.
The war is over for them.

I pour a six pack of Miller high life on a lonely grave.
I told my friend. No winners in war. We were tricked and fooled.
After you stand by a grave of a soldier, a friend who left family and children.
You understand.

Blood demand blood.
War had no conscious.
Men will fight till they can't bleed no-more.

I like how this encompasses how purposeless war is, with no winners and countless unnecessary deaths. I also like how you explained that for some, the chaos of war only ended once they had died. It gives it a more personal feeling when you talk about losing your friend who lost his family and children, it definitely shows the real effects of war.

A very fitting tribute to a lost friend who fell during a relatively recent conflict & one that could not be more fitting as we approach 11th November and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War of 1914 - 1918....It makes me wonder will we ever learn? Thanks for sharing.......Neville

there are never really winners....just survivors....and those who do often are still at war mentally and emotionally and the war doesn't end until they do.

Thank you Jacob. War is celebrated for a second and we mourn for the dead forever.
I always said, in War the laws of the universe and nature fade, and there is no logic.
