Just a ghost in this house

Just a ghost in this house

A Poem by Coyote Poetry

Just words.

Just  a ghost in this  house

Once love  was  alive and well in our home.  Laughter, song  and  the noise of the children are gone now.
Today  a deadly silence in the house.

Two stranger  rarely talk and the house became a prison.

Once lovers now barely friends. Holding on to the thread of  hope.

I wonder can love be brought back to life from the dead? Is dead love just sleeping emotion or had time stole the will and kindness
away forever?

Today two strangers share a house. Just ghost waiting for  a escape or a miracle.

This is literally the progression of my parents' relationship through my childhood. More than I like its content, I like how it made me feel something. Sad, mostly. Its something people go through all too often, but it happens.

I like the format of your work. It adds some kind of depth. Its really good work.

Wow... strong thoughts here.. After our children left home, we found a new freedom..
We actually talked more..and shared our joys and our sorrows more openly..
I do understand how couples can seemingly grow cold...melt down.. and away ......
Life is what we put into it... we must cherish every minute ... share.. and ever
work toward................LOVE...

Well done...touches deep....................... Jazz

Thank you Jazz. Wise people do hold on. Glass is rarely greener on the other side of the fence.

You are welcome...........and....RIGHT.........................Jazzy
A short read that delivered a knock-out punch. You're perceptive of not only the emptiness of a strained relationship but the visceral pain that goes with it as well. The effect of strain is alleviated a little by the mention of the ghosts. It seemed you combined them in the last line, one ghost that houses them both? If my interpretation is correct there is still some hope left; they are together even in their loneliness and confusion. I enjoyed this poem a lot.

Always hope. Hard to find sometime. Thank you Jake for reading and the comment.
Your few words describe so painfully a situation a lot of us are confronted with. Subjects like this are hard to cover, but do resonate in thoughts and hearts. I enjoyed this poem and video. I saw Alison Krauss in Cardiff with Robert Plant when they were promoting their Raising Sands album, she has a beautiful voice and at the gig tended to outshine the mighty Robert Plant.

She is amazing. A quiet star. Thank you Leigh for reading and the comment.
This will ring eerily true for a lot of couples I believe. Once all the excitement of children disappear from the nest... what will be left? Great poem. Maybe make the font a bit bigger though...? :)

Thank you Andronicus. I appreciate the comment.
Too often lovers hold on with hope to regain the life and sharing they once had! Your words remind us of this as the ghost of past memory and future hope struggles to become a form again. Sometimes there is new life and a spark is ignited to rid the heart of the home of the ghost. I like the metaphor you have used John! - a very good write and I just love Alison Krauss (one of my favorites), so her music makes it even better!

Alison is amazing and I agree. A house without love. Is a empty house. Thank you Sheila for reading .. read more
A very melancholic poem - unfortunately it touches upon an issue that is familiar to many couples. It is going to sound lame, considering the title, but it is quite haunting. You feel the characters fade away and live next to each other without seeing each other... just waiting.. Beautiful, though sad, portrayal! Thank you for sharing :)

Never lame words from you and thank you Mai for reading and the comment. I do appreciate.
We all hope for that Lazarus effect to overcome a 'dead' relationship...and man, your last line, such a stark and passionately sad image: "just ghosts waiting for an escape or a miracle" ....well-done, John, and so familiar...thanks for sharing the Alison Krauss song, too - she is one of my all time favorite vocalists and violinists...

So very true, John...you are welcome, my friend.
A sad portrait of many empty nest homes. The children go off to school or get married. The husband and wife come to the sad realization they have nothing in common anymore. Very well said, John. Lydi**
