A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Wars need to end. No-one win in war.

"
Twenty one gun salute

                        Loyalty
                        Duty
                        Respect
                        Selfless service
                        Honor
                        Integrity
                        Personal courage
                      (Soldier creed)

Standing tall and looking good.
Ought to be in Hollywood.

Brotherhood of Soldiers.
Ain't no race or religion.

Three old timers from WW2.
Shoot their rifles 7 times each.
I go to them and shake their hands.
Thank them for coming so far.
They give me a smile and tell me,
we must give our brother a proper goodbye.

I hold my Father's two silver stars.
His most precious possessions.
He never spoke of the Korea .

When he was drunk on too much rum.
He talked to dead comrads at the kitchen table.
Left behind in the Korea dirt.

I'm proud to be part of the biggest Brotherhood.
We take care of our brothers and sisters.

Wars never end.

Soldiers keep marching.
Head high.
Unafraid.
Proud to be Soldiers for the USA.

Freedom is very costly.
Many men and woman have paid for us to be
free to chose our goals and dreams.

Pray for the Soldiers.
Pray for their families.
Pray for the day when the soldiers
are home safe and sound.

One more day.
We be through.
I be glad.
And so will you.

What a touching write this is. You obviously loved your father very much. No, wars do not end. They continue in the lives and hearts of the soldiers who come home. Families are ripped apart and for those who don't return, the memories are always there. Your father was a brave soldier and not bragging about his wartime days proved his character. Heartfelt words here. Lydi**

Thank you for sharing this beautiful write. I had an uncle who fought for our country's freedom. I always looked up to him. It's true, soldiers are special. They have this inspiring aura that radiates from their words, actions and whatever they do.

This is a beautiful dedication to soldiers everywhere. Those who came back and those who died on the battlefield. I pray every day to end war.

"Wars never end." A sad truth. This is so touching. It's really hard to be a soldier...to see the same pictures during war. Pictures that you'll never forget in your life and will always haunt you even in your sleep.

The last part is what I like...which reflects hope for everyone. Good job, CP. :)

This poem is so touching! I got the shivers when reading this because there is nothing more truer than the statement that freedom is not free. I'm glad you are honoring the veterans and soldiers who are active and those who gave their lives for our country. My grandparents, my uncle, and my dad are in the army and this poem is so relatable and close to heart. I would love to share it with my grandpa, maybe I will leave it by his grave.

I enjoy the details you choose to insert into your poems, it makes them very personal which I always feel makes a poem memorable.

There's always a heavy price for liberty, I am thankful for those who would put themselves in that position willingly. Your poem is a wonderful tribute, full of the life (personal detail) that deserves to be showcased.

Enjoyed reading this.
