Roses are red and violets are blue.

Roses are red and violets are blue.

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Listening to old and very good music tonight.

"
Roses are red and violets are blue.

Roses are red.
Violets are blue and
you have left me alone in the darkness of the tavern.

Pretty flowers have turned black.
The whiskey is tasting better.
Your beautiful face is becoming lost in the bliss of Jack Daniels
and my good friend Jim Beam.

I told the bartender.
I was a lover once.
I was a dreamer once.
Now I'm a drinker.
Trying to find peace in the blindness of alcohol and forgotten dreams.

Rose are red.
Violet are blue.
We bleed red blood when the knife is put in deep
and with a purpose.

Beautiful blue eyes woman walked out of my door.
Told me . "You was dead.
You swim in s**t and believe it will be roses in the morning.
Can't love part way. You must go all the way or walk away."

I'm falling apart.
No-one to pick me up when you can't find the way back.

Whiskey songs are written by fools who wasted love.
Held hate and misery near.

Today I got my cigarettes, dirty ashtrays and strong whiskey.
Ghost of old lovers haunt my dreams and
I'm waiting for no-one.

Roses are red. Violet are blue.
Old tavern is loaded with fools who wasted the good thing.

I was drinking red wine last night when I read this and had to come back in the am and reread it since I felt a bit like maybe I was like the lush in the poem...trying to lose lost people in drink.

Some outstanding relatable lines in this poem

"I told the bartender.
I was a lover once.
I was a dreamer once.
Now I'm a drinker."

So sad...

Thanks for sharing.

Dear coyote ...
firstly i find the name coyote really cute :P
as for the poem ....I find myself impassioned post reading this ....
some of the lines that got my attention hugely " I was a lover once.
I was a dreamer once.
Now I'm a drinker.
Trying to find peace in the blindness of alcohol and forgotten dreams. " .....you churn oneself down in the misery of a lost love ....
you have poured down feelings with an ease as if it really were alcohol that you were pouring down .. ;) winks ;)

keep writing :)

Roses are red
Violets are blue
simplicity taken to the level of personal lines- like this much
when we are in pain with a Jack Daniels b.f.f. all songs are about us
every beat every word - it doesn't matter the song when I went through my divorce (although my beverage of choice was Captain Morgan) even the sound "Oh Mickey" was about my life at that moment
you have captured that feeling in your piece with emotion
thank you for sharing...now I will have that song stuck in my head...your so fine you blow my mind*)

The flow reminds me of a conversation with one who is intoxicated. Intentional or not I always love what you write from the heart. Cheers, to one of my favorite 21st cent poets! Excellent read and write.

I find it hard to critique poetry. Many people have no problems doing it. But to me, it's like critiquing a soul. I just don't think you can. If it expresses what you wanted to express, then it's a great poem. Poetry to me, when written, is an event taking place in the universe. If you weren't there when the event was taking place, sometimes it's hard to hear and feel what was truly being poured out. I see and feel what you poured out, which means you did a good job putting me in touch with those feelings. I think we've all felt them to a degree along the way.

The flow was s**t. Off. Disjointed.

But then that reflects the heart and soul embedded in this piece.

I honestly never could pick up drinking. I had a drink of Ouzo one time from my friend Chris and SPLAT fell on my face on the floor and decided it was sure comfy to sleep there. Anyways that was my biggo drinking adventure so I stick to tea now.

But - I understand loss, Coyote. I've been there. I dearly sorely miss this girl from 3rd grade and - well - it was never meant to be. Yet I never solved any problems by drinking only - solving the problems ?
