The year 2020 will be remembered as the year of COVID 19. Among the many recommended guidelines put out by numerous health agencies and medical specialists, there is a recommendation for persons to try to limit viruses in the home, particularly the airborne virus causing the COVID. For this reason, it is important to consider what cleaning techniques will be helpful in the day to day cleaning of your home. Here follow steps you can take to keep the COVID virus and other strains of virus at bay:

·        When a virus is carried airborne, it is logical that in time it will settle of surfaces. For this reason, one should be extra diligent with wiping surfaces. There are a number of commercial products already on cleaning cloths and those you put on your own cleaning cloths. Usually, there will be slight dampness left following a wipe-down, but you can go over moisture sensitive areas with a soft, dry, clean cloth following the application of cleaning products. Highly visible and often-used surfaces such as tabletops, counters, bookcases, dresser tops, and all bathroom surfaces should be wiped down each evening. Surfaces with fabrics such as couches and chairs can be given a light going over with a disinfectant spray.

·        Floors and carpets should be vacuumed daily if possible.

·        All areas around where food is handled or eaten should be wiped down every little while as needed.

·        Bathrooms should be thoroughly cleaned at least weekly with a good wipe-down of surfaces daily. Using disinfectant spray here is also a good idea.

·        Bedrooms should be aired as often as possible, and disinfectant spray used before sleeping. Washing bedspreads and linens at least once a week, is advised. Keeping a covered, dirty clothes hamper readily available in each bedroom is a must.

·        Laundry rooms should be cleaned and included in the daily wipe-down. Laundry should be taken directly from the hamper and put in the washer. Machine drying will kill most viruses as will hanging outside on a line in the sunshine. Pillows and items such as stuffed animals can be put in a dryer on low heat to help kill the airborne virus.

·        Instead of using cloth towels for drying hands in the kitchen and bathroom, use paper towels. Have a covered waste receptacle in each area where handwashing is done.

·        By each entrance to the home, have hand sanitizer, paper towels, and new, disposable face masks available for visitors.

·        Encourage all members of the household to wash their hands often and try to keep hands away from eyes, nose, and mouth. Children will need frequent reminding but do so gently as they are already fearful of all the confusion and uncertainty in their environments.

For those who can afford professional cleaning services in Ocala, Florida, or wherever they live, this is a good time to utilize their expertise. Professional cleaners have the knowledge and correct cleaning products to clean and sanitize a home or office. No one can eliminate a virus completely, but careful, thorough, and consistent cleaning with the right products will go a long way to providing a safe, healthy environment.
