![]() MaycombA Poem by CassieBookWorm8![]() Based on the town of Maycomb from Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird"![]() Down in
Southern Alabama, Father away
from the river than an old town should be Because of a
certain man Sinkfield A few pieces
cut off a map and some ale, Lies Maycomb A small,
southern, sleepy old town Where time
moves slowly And so do
the people there On the
outside, A mellow
place Of bright
flowers and sunlit days Full of
ordinary, agreeable folk But murky
waters run deep. There is
always the dark side of the moon Unseen, but
still there Mad dogs
down the street And hate
filled men at night Things are
not always as they seem But Maycomb
is also the town of A gentle
man, set on earth to do the dirty work Who loves
his children more than words can tell And a women,
who even a fire can not bring down Of
Methodists and Baptists And football
in the fall Curious
children, growing older Of good but
misguided people And folks
that live on both sides of the track Those with
Gentle Breeding And those
that do without Soap dolls Front porch
swings Old watches And baby
steps Where a
lonesome boy Full of
fanciful places, wild dreams, and Magic Can find a
home And just
down the street, Pure hell
turns out to be A Lady And a
forgotten gray ghost Can become a
Friend © 2013 CassieBookWorm8 |
