The screams are endless

I hear them in the night

But it’s just habit now

After all these years

They don’t realize the pain anymore

But they scream anyway

Because someone tells them they should

Just as someone tells them everything they must do

The fear has been dulled

Like everything else that makes them human

And beautiful

But it rides on the air

Where they are not allowed to wander

 

The screams are silent

I can not hear them

But they are there
