Simple actionA Story by Cassandra VasiliuA short experiment/exercise to improve my writingShe snatched up the mint-green colored pencil with a blunt, crooked tip and thrust it into the dust-covered electric sharpener. She felt a slight tremor crawl up the smooth contours of the thin pencil to her stubby fingertips. Her tiny hand shook as she twisted the pencil around so that it sharpened to the same length on all six sides. The black sharpener gobbled up the long pencil. A sharp high squeal emanated from the dull sharpener as if in protest of its current prolonged use. The noise grew in intensity until the girl, confident that the tip had been refined enough, drew the pencil out. The deafening noise dimmed to a sudden silence and the girl tossed the short pencil on a hard wooden desk covered in dark eraser shavings for later use. © 2012 Cassandra Vasiliu |
