My Own Coffin

I just feel sucky today. Thought if I was going to feel bad, might as well put it in writing.

You didn't mean it, I know
It was an accident, You know
I curl up in bed, Plagued by you
Cry myself to slumber, I dream of you

On the hill top, There you are
In the green grass, So very far
I climb the slope, Making my way
Let the sun shine, Show me the way

I reach your open arms, Wrap around me tightly
You feel like heaven, Forever with me lovingly
The clouds shadow the light, A hole swallows you up
She's down there grinning, You drink from the poison cup

I step back into reality, Drenched in tears
Shaking under the covers, From the night terrors
I look myself in the mirror, As I do often
And think to myself, I'm making my own coffin

A hole where you are is in my heart
Keeping you safe until you climb out and meet me
Digging in deeper for how long you stay in
Reach out and take my hand,

For there's nothing for you there

Sometimes there is a sort of dark comfort in thinking of being in one's coffin. All sorts of personal pain and agony can put one in that frame of mine. Very few often try to take that route, and even fewer achieve that bleak triumph. Excellent poem.
