The BeachA Poem by Heromen SelenaA free verse poem that I did for my creative writing classThe Beach Shaded by the skyscraper trees on the edge of the lake I dip my big toe in the dark blue water And flinch up the sandy beach My toe melting in the sand’s warmth From the brief brush of winter When it’s the summer season Hamburgers and hotdogs sizzle on the smoky grill Calling my name with the aroma of lunch The underside of my feet burn with each step on the sun baked sand Racing to the wooden picnic tables covered in white cloth To swipe a plastic plate before my family could take Them all Rich laughter between people, large and small Juicy, plump hotdogs bursting in my mouth each bite Light, joyful conversation jumping from one end to the other And the sunlight streaming down through the canopy leaves Warms my heart that I feel At home here on the lake with My family © 2013 Heromen SelenaAuthor's Note
