Ode to a Merry-Go-Round

Ode to a Merry-Go-Round

A Poem by Carrie Manor

Around, and round the Merry-Go-Round,

with sparkling, wandering eyes.

Every horse, and animal, truthfully can see,

the enchantment, excitement, and wonder,

glowing in every child's’ eye.

Gleaming gems and ribbons,

the smell of fresh cut wood.

With each key of the organ played,

strikes a chord of glee.

Hoses, horses, rabbits, and frogs.

Galloping, jumping, and hopping

 gleefully up and down.

Lights of every color, flashing on and off.

Reds, oranges, greens, and blues.

Changing into a rainbow, weaving into the heart.

Stained glass windows, fit for a king,

pretty painted panels, and paintings

carefully hung upon every wall.

Some say that magic doesn’t exist,

pixie dust , is yet but a myth,

but every child knows,

soon as the organ goes,

the horses “kick” off the ground.

And away they go.

To a magic place,

not to far off....

After the ride is over,

even the nonbelievers know...

The magic of childhood, once thought lost

coursing once again through their hearts.

This was really good. I love how you compared the motion of the ride to the motions of life. Very nicely written poem.
