Rash Decisions (4)

Rash Decisions (4)

A Poem by Carrie Lynn

One day, Lucy makes a rash decision. She buys a guitar.

She used to have two, but her first serious boyfriend--

the mathematician musician--took them, along with

her entire collection of vintage dresses, which he threw

into a dumpster. She thought she'd never play music again.

But she does and she writes and she strums and she sings:

I am tempranillo-tongued and

wishing I was younger.

I know I'm pretty young, but

I'm wishing it was summer still.

A girl needs to make at least one rash decision in her life.

And every time she writes with wine, the lines turn out perfectly,

even though she wonders if she spelled Tempranillo correctly.

But she wakes up the next day and can't remember why

these words are here.
