The Phantom Forget

The Phantom Forget

A Poem by CarpeNoctem

Merciless those memories may be
Superimposed Imagery
Stepping just outside recollection
Or becoming filleted into fractions
In time do they dissipate
Leaving only traces of the phantom forget

A punitive tension as toes test the water
Of a murky memory that's long been altered
Worn ragged, raw and tender
By the straining struggle to remember
That which was taken without my consent
And stolen from me by the phantom forget

You forgo the right and any length of measure
To every thought left untethered
Sound or secure to the stable
as you know memories will always stray if able
Soon to be devoured slowly they gravitate
Toward the open jaws of the phantom forget

As sure as wildfire ashes to the wind have gone
He lays waste to all he puts his hands on
Like a wolf only in darkness does he stalk
Eyeing the heard and eating the weakest of the flock
Steady prying with distance as a drill bit
For all your memory is subject to the phantom forget

Primed and prone
A predator in the room of the throne
Prowling and waiting to rob you
Ransack and pocket your value
Sorcery impossible to negate
For we have all been under the spell of the phantom forget
