Rose

Rose

A Poem by Caroline Grimm

"she was as pretty as a rose" he said
No she wasn't.
she was beautiful
she was complicated
her words hurt like thorns
she was perfect
she knows her worth
each one of her flaws, a petal
without them she wouldn't be that rose
without them she would be nothing
nothing but a stem and a few leaves
her beauty was one that lingered
it lingered like the faint prick
the prick of a torn
she was a rose that stuck around
she was a rose that lived longer
she was the rose he wanted
she was the rose he needed
she was his rose
