A Chapter by Caroline Grimm
"

the beginning

"
"She is so beautiful it reminds me of England in its frosty months, the shade of pink that spreads across her pale cheeks is that of a flower preserved perfectly in a thin layer of Frost," he said as he took his first glance at his newborn daughter.
It seems as though he forgot all about the news about his wife dying after giving birth to her, everything was lit up perfectly as long as she was in his arms. He named her Frost, she grew up attached to his side, always asked questions, and stayed happy. As she grew up in her teen years she was beautiful and just as happy as before, she got more creative as time went on. Then something tragic happened.
One late night, it was cold and dark, a thick layer of snow covered the ground, and the street lights were dim. Her father is walking home from his job at the library he stops for a second at the entrance to their favorite park feeling a pain shoot through his chest, and the pain is unbearable he reaches for his chest to try to calm himself down thinking it was nothing. Just to realize, as he pulls his hand away from his chest to see thick, dark, warm blood on his frozen fingertips, he has been shot. As his face contorts to an expression of pure horror he feels his legs slowly start to give out, suddenly he drops to the cold sidewalk beneath him clutching his chest and gasping for air.

As the blood seeps into the snow around him turning it from the pure innocent white to a shade of red, full of horror he says with his final breath...." Frost.....Hide"...... As he lies there the coldness of the air around him claims his body for good the killer walks out from the shadows and picks up the bullet from the ground with a grin. As the killer walks out of the shadows his face is revealed to be his brother-in-law (Lucy’s brother, Frost’s uncle).
He messages someone "It's done boss he's gone". There's a reply just seconds after "Good you're free to come back and claim your reward". The uncle grins and puts his phone away and kneels next to the body whispering "Frost is next you piece of s**t, that's what you get for having that child that took Lucy’s goddamn life, why did you save that rat over her?" Then he walks off into the darkness leaving the corpse in the dim streetlights.
